SPANZ Newsletter - June 2017.

Welcome to the June Seed Production Asia New Zealand (SPANZ) newsletter and thank you for taking time to read it.

I’m writing this newsletter from my office in Christchurch, New Zealand on the shortest day of our year which is the mid - way point of our winter.

This is the day when we have the least amount of day light hours and from this day on we start moving away from the winter period and into the spring.

2016 / 2017 Seed Production season overview.

Last season’s seed production was a good one for SPANZ and are happy so say we fulfilled our contracts well for our clients both in terms of quantity and quality.

We also had an increase of business from our clients so this indicated to us that we are performing well for them.

There was also an increase in the range of vegetable seed products we grew.

Recently we reviewed the 2016/ 2017 seed production season growing season with our seed production staff and have identified areas where we can further improve on to the mutual benefit of our seed production clients.

This review process is always on going as we strive to produce the best possible product for our clients.

2017 / 2018 new seed production season.

At this time of the year our thoughts start to move towards the new spring planting season.

We are busy arranging new season seed production contracts with our clients throughout Asia and Europe.

As mentioned above we are very pleased with last year’s season and are now seeking new contracts for the coming 2017/2018 season.

We would welcome any enquiry you may have for seed production from New Zealand. For a better understanding of SPANZ activities please have a look at our website:

New Irrigation will further improve Canterbury crop production.

After many years of negotiation ground work for the Central (Canterbury, New Zealand) Plains irrigation scheme is well under way with stage one nearly completed and work on stage two underway.

When finished this new irrigation scheme will supply irrigation water for somewhere between 75,000 and 90,000 hectares of farm land. While there has been some historical irrigation in the region much of the area mentioned is now is classed as “dryland”.

The supply of water to this area vastly improves this regions ability to grow seed crops particularly vegetable seed crops for our clients throughout Asia.

For SPANZ this region is within a few minutes from our office and over the years our company has developed strong relationships with the key seed producing farmers in the region.

Central Canterbury has long been recognised as one of the leading seed production areas in the world.

Our seed processing, international standard seed quality testing facilities, along with the nearby shipping ports of Lyttleton and Timaru, all combine to make the region perfect for seed production and worldwide shipping.

Please click on this link to watch an overview of this exciting new irrigation scheme.
